More Than One Way to Get to Work

FALL 2009 :: ISSUE NO. 3

The Menlo Gateway team is fine-tuning a comprehensive Transportation Demand Management Program that will be finalized in the coming months. From subsidized public transit tickets, to bike lockers, shuttle service and vanpools – the program also encompasses options, such as on-site amenities and flexible work schedules, to mitigate traffic impact within and around the project. Elements of the plan include:

  • Alternative transportation: bike racks, lockers, shower and changing facilities and a $20/month subsidy encourage people to bike to work. The addition of new connecting sidewalks also improves safety and encourages pedestrian commuting.
  • Sharing rides: reserved parking for carpools and vanpools enables workers to reduce their commute costs without sacrificing convenience.
  • Shuttle service: increased shuttle service to Marsh Road and the local Caltrain stations, as well as subsidized tickets, to encourage people to use existing public transportation.
  • Supporting programs: instituting flexible work hours and providing on-site amenities—such as fitness, restaurant and retail facilities—reduce the need for people to leave during the day. And on-site kiosks and a commute assistance center make it easy for people to find information and purchase tickets.

With a superb location in close proximity to existing public transportation, and a range of transportation options for workers and visitors to choose from, Menlo Gateway is expected to offer the widest range of transportation alternatives for a project of its type on the Peninsula.
