Voice Your Support for Menlo Gateway

SPRING 2010 :: ISSUE NO. 7

On April 6th, the Menlo Park City Council will hold an important public hearing on a development project that could impact our city's future for years to come: Menlo Gateway.

After many months of hard work and negotiations, the City of Menlo Park and the Bohannon Development Company have reached a preliminary agreement that will bring the Menlo Gateway project to fruition. The terms of this agreement will be discussed and voted on at the April 6th meeting.

Providing a balance of economic, social, and environmental sustainability, Menlo Gateway has the potential to generate $1.4 million per year for the city's general fund, helping to increase Menlo Park's ailing revenue base and secure the city's financial future—as well as providing a much-needed influx of money to our local schools.

The project will transform an aging office park East of Highway 101 into a striking landmark on the Peninsula, creating nearly 2,300 jobs in Menlo Park, approximately 2,100 professional and service office-related jobs, more than 200 hospitality jobs and nearly 2,000 construction jobs. These new jobs will add to the economic vibrancy of the revitalized area, boosting the local economy through increased spending by employees.

The Menlo Gateway project will be a model for other cities looking at environmentally sustainable commercial developments. It includes a robust transportation demand management (TDM) plan to reduce vehicle traffic by providing shuttles to area CalTrain stations, subsidizing public transit tickets for tenants, providing preferential parking for carpools and vanpools, and more. And, as a LEED-certified, water- and energy-efficient, highly sustainable complex, Menlo Gateway will be one of the most innovative green multi-use developments in the Bay Area, placing Menlo Park at the leading edge of the sustainable building movement.

On April 6th, we hope you will come to the City Council Chambers, 701 Laurel Street in Menlo Park, to voice your support for this critical project.

More than ever, Menlo Park needs Menlo Gateway.
